The worlds favorite brute ‘ute is back for 2016 with big changes under the hood! Swapping to turbo powertrains for the G500 and G63 adds a big chunk of new power and torque, while dropping weights slightly for good measure.
The all-new powertrains are paired with the latest 7-Speedshift Plus automatics for overall sprint pace improvements across the board. The G500 does the sprint in 5.9-seconds now, while the G63 is kissing 5.0-seconds on the 0-60-mph run. All-new ESP and vehicle electronics are part of the new engine packages, promising great improvements in real-world enthusiast driving. The 100-kph sprints for the G63 is 5.4s in 2016. Going V12TT in the G65 just slices 0.1s from the time to 5.3-seconds.
All benefit from a huge charging sense of momentum and engine fury — a trait promised in the new turbo G500 as well.
Four major spec levels are available globally: from the G350d to the G500, G63 and G65. The 4×4-squared model is not yet priced, but will be the range-toppper along with the special-order AMG 6×6 variant is priced from $253k at direct Euro/Dollar exhange rates. (226K Euro)
Slight tweaks outside versus the 2015 model include newly-huge wheel options on the G63, plus some snazzy new door graphics. The Crazy Colors options continue for 2016 — shown in detail on the next page of this post. The AMG trucks continue with extra-cool side exhausts for the new year, by the way.
Pricing for the G500 entry-level US truck is likely to just top the $115k of the 2015 G550.
