The Toyota Grand Highlander promised a new direction for the Highlander nameplate when it made its debut earlier this year at the Chicago Auto Show. Adding more luxury, technology and capability is helping the Grand Highlander morph into a potent three-row offering and it appears that Lexus also wanted to get in on the fun too, with the luxury brand revealing the first teaser of the upcoming Lexus TX SUV.
TX To Be Produced Alongside Grand Highlander
For the moment, Lexus isn’t revealing too much about the TX beyond a lone teaser image as well as a brief statement promising that something big is coming. While we get to wait to hear more details about the TX, the teaser image does appear to suggest that the TX will get new taillights, a blacked out D-Pillar and a prominent design line that snakes along the flanks of the SUV. This model would also be smaller than the GX and LX models and could provide Lexus a solid competitor in the mid-size three-row SUV segment that won’t be doomed to failure like the infamous RX-L that appeared several years ago. A separate batch of reports suggest that production of the TX will take place alongside the Grand Highlander at Toyota’s Indianan assembly plant.
There are also no details on what kind of mechanical hardware will lurk underneath the skin, but expect the TX and the Grand Highlander to share their engines with each other. That means a trio of four-cylinder offerings including the Hybrid Max version that makes 362-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque in the Grand Highlander. The TGNA-K platform will most likely be shared too as will the core interior design albeit with some Lexus exclusive revisions to help it be more upscale for wealthy buyers.
When Will We See It?
The appearance of this teaser image would appear to confirm that the Lexus TX will make its debut sooner than later but we expect the teaser campaign to begin in earnest this summer, with a potential debut possibly taking place in fall or winter of 2023.
