The Maserati MC20 is a pretty impressive supercar with the site recently spending three days with one last year. But what if you’re a buyer that wants more power and style than what even the base MC20 can provide? The Italian company has you covered with the all-new GT2 Stradale.
GT2 Stradale has track-ready looks for your friends on the street
The GT12 Stradale may share some of its core underpinnings with the MC20 but Maserati prefers that you don’t call it that since it’s essentially a road-going version of the aforementioned GT2. As a result, the exterior styling is largely shared with the track car with the hood getting extra venting bigger intakes, and a massive wing on the rear. However, Maserati designers did make minor edits to help the car pass safety standards in most markets with the front end being slightly tamer in its aerodynamic aides and other changes to help better protect occupants in the event of a crash. All of these necessary tweaks are accompanied by splashes of carbon fiber with the lightweight material being used throughout the exterior.
The interior is where the balance becomes truly apparent with the GT2 Stradale combining the best of the MC20 and its track sousing together. The cabin shares its core DNA with the MC20 but the steering wheel is thicker and it has fewer controls while Alcantara and matte surfaces are used to help eliminate excess glare. A six-speaker stereo is standard but Maserati will also offer a 12-speaker unit for those that prefer pop music to the sounds emanating from the engine mounted behind them. A 10.25-inch infotainment system is standard and in the Stradale, everything is within easy reach of the driver. The seats in the GT2 are double-shelled manually adjustable carbon fiber racing seats with foam inserts and the company will have two sizes available to help the car appeal to a wide range of customers.
GT2 Stradale will be most powerful Maserati ever
Performance for the GT2 Stradale will come from Maserati’s 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 but it will be the most powerful Maserati ever made with the street version of the GT2 making 631 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. That’s a slight increase over the standard MC20 with the company saying that a reworked exhaust system and a tweaked engine tune were responsible for the power increase. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic and rear-wheel drive will remain standard but the increased power improves performance times with the GT2 making the sprit to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds before topping out at 201 mph.
The suspension however has been heavily reworked to improve handling but still provide a reasonable amount of ride comfort when going over rougher sections of tarmac. The aero kit helps produce 1,100 lbs of downforce with buyers being able to equip the car with an optional Performance Package that gives them access to Corsa Evo mode which enhances the driver customization features to help create what the company calls a “360-degree professional driving experience.”
When can I buy one?
The Maserati GT2 Stradale made its debut at Monterey Car Week but while the car attracted plenty of stares at the event, Maserati wasn’t ready to talk about pricing or availability. However, expect a limited production run and a beefed-up price tag to match its performance credentials.
