Ford’s attempt to dominate the EV market has proven to be a very profitable gamble for the company, with models like the F-150 Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E proving to be strong sellers for the company. But while these models are previewing Ford’s future, there were also some that were concerned about the push for EVs leaving the company’s heritage behind. Ford has responded to these concerns with the debut of the all-new 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally, a trail-ready EV that brings the Mustang nameplate into new territory.
Mach-E Rally Channels Ford’s Rally Pedigree
When we last saw the Mach-E Rally, it debuted as a near-production prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Not much has changed since then, and that’s good news for fans of the original concept. While the core styling here is typical Mach-E, the Rally model gets a number of touches to help it stand out from the rest of its siblings. They include 19-inch Gloss White wheels, foglights that are actually embedded into the front grille panel, a large front splitter and rear spoiler, and a pair of racing stripes.
The interior gets gloss white accents on the dashboard, doors, and seat backs while contrast stitching and Rally monikers are also added in for greater effect. While the Mach-E Rally might seem like a new frontier for Ford in the eyes of younger buyers, for older buyers, it’s a nod to Ford’s history in Rally racing, especially in Group B competition with iconic models like the RS2000. This was channeled in early development, with the model being benchmarked against another Rally staple, the Subaru WRX.
Mach-E Rally Adds Electrons To A Time-Honored Tradition
Performance for the Mustang Mach-E Rally comes from two electric motors that work together to produce a combined system output of 480 hp with Ford reps claiming that the model can make the sprint to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Ford did confirm that these figures are subject to change, but if they carry over as is, the Rally promises to be a potent member of the Mach-E family.
Another spec subject to change is range, with initial figures pointing to a slight hit in that category, with the Rally getting 250 miles between charges. That’s 20 miles less than a GT model and is significantly less than the 312 miles offered by the extended-range battery on some variants. That said, the dent in overall range is made up by some of the performance features that are incorporated into the EV. A new RallySport Drive mode allows owners to have better control of the CUV on certain types of terrain, with the system allowing for greater yaw to help create epic slides.
When Can I Buy One?
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally will begin production early next year, with initial pricing targets pointing to a $65,000 base price when it arrives in the United States. The model will also be sold in Europe, with customers choosing from several colors, including Grabber Blue, Eruption Green and Grabber Yellow.
