Cadillac’s V-Series family of performance models technically made its debut back in 2004, but as they say, it’s better to be early than late and the luxury auto brand has confirmed that it has begun to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the V-Series as we speak with the company promising some potent surprises throughout the year.
Racing Leads The Way, Road Flavored Surprises Coming Later
For now, the brand’s celebrations are taking their inaugural lap on the racetrack with Cadillac fielding two Cadillac Racing V_LMDh models at last weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring race in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series. Meanwhile the Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac V-Series.R has become a top contender in the FIA World Endurance Race Championship series.
But while these models will help the V-Series name shine at the race track, the main question here is what will happen in regards to the road-going models that the moniker has become known for. Cadillac has offered over 13 models to customers over the past two decades and even added its first SUV to the family with the Cadillac Escalade V-Series. However, that appears to only be the proverbial tip of the iceberg with brand reps saying that Cadillac will celebrate by offering “new features and products commemorating the 20th anniversary of the V-Series.”
As expected, Cadillac didn’t reveal any major details about what the brand will exactly be offering, but look for it to be a multi-pronged approach. In addition to special edition models (a long-running GM tradition) look for existing models to perhaps benefit from some much needed updates. We have had a few sightings of the updated Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing in our area and in addition to an updated front end, the interior is also rumored to take some inspiration from the Cadillac Lyriq EV. Cadillac is also planning to show three new electric models that will enter production in 2024. It’s a strong possibility that one or all three of these models will have a V-Series variant but that remains to be seen. The Lyriq is also rumored to have a V-Series model waiting in the wings, but details remain elusive.
When Will Wee See Any Of These New Models?
For now, look for things to be low key with Cadillac focusing on the racing side of the business. That will change later this year when we will perhaps start seeing the first wave of road focused models with things reaching a crescendo in 2024 as more of them make their respective appearances.
