Maserati GranTurismo Folgore Lights Up Rome

The iconic Maserati GranTurismo is making significant progress in its quest toward production reality. Maserati has released heavily veiled teaser images of it in the past, but a trip through the streets of Rome has given the world its clearest look yet at the all-new GranTurismo Folgore.

Italian Style Personified

The Folgore part of its name (not to be confused with the similar-sounding character from the Killer Instinct video game series) signifies that it’s an all-electrified model, and it also gives the car a nice ring to it as well.

The exterior styling largely follows the same basic script that defined prior generations of the GranTurismo, with the long flowing hood complimenting the fastback style roof and the short trunk. The front fascia is inspired by the MC20 supercar, with the headlights and front grille having the same core design.

The rear end is still eluding a full inspection, but it looks like some nostalgia elements were baked into its flanks to help tie the car in with iconic models throughout its history.

GranTurismo Is An Electrified Thrill Ride

Performance for the Folgore variant will come from three electric motors, which all work together to produce over 1,200 hp. Maserati has still not released any performance figures yet, but it’s safe to assume that this Maserati is packing some serious firepower.

Buyers not interested in making the plunge to the Folgore will also have the option of equipping it with a gasoline-fed V6 though details surrounding this option haven’t been released yet.

When Will We See It?

With the car shedding this much camouflage, it’s a prominent sign that the car will be making its debut very soon, with more details emerging later this year before the GranTurismo makes its debut sometime in 2023.

The Folgore lineup is just getting started, though, and will eventually cover much more ground with the Grecale, MC20, and the long-awaited replacements for the Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte.
