2023 Cadillac Lyriq To Enter Official Production March 21st According To Report

When we last saw the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq in person, it was during a visit to GM Tech Center where we were allowed to spend some time with Cadillac engineers and designers learning more about the futuristic CUV. But other than scattered sightings of evaluation mules undergoing shakedown tests on the roads dotting GM Tech Center (a short hop from our office) we haven’t heard much lately. However, a new report appears to put a final date on production with the first models expected to roll out later this month.

Tentative Production Date Sign Of Cadillac’s Scheduling Push

Cadillac revealed some time ago that the Lyriq was moving ahead of schedule when it came to development and production and thanks to the folks at Cadillac Society, it appears that the first production units will roll out on March 21st. This date would coincide with the accelerated development schedule and would allow the Lyriq valuable time to establish itself in the segment, especially against a growing pool of rivals. Cadillac for its part has not formally confirmed the report but did state that the Lyriq is on track for production later this month but stopped short of giving an official date.

The Lyriq would be the first production EV for Cadillac and it will preview a new direction that Cadillac will go moving forward as the luxury brand transforms into a full EV powerhouse poised to bring the fight to Tesla and other EV upstarts. For now, the Lyriq will be limited to a Debut Edition which was sold out in less than 10 minutes and comes loaded with luxury appointments. A single electric motor powers the rear wheels in Debut Editions and while the 340 hp on hand might seem a bit modest at first glance, it’s only the tip of the iceberg with more powerful Lyriq models arriving in the future.

When Can I Buy A Lyriq?

If the current timetable matches up with the report Cadillac Society posted the Lyriq appears to still be on track to roll out to dealerships nationwide this summer. Cadillac confirmed pricing in 2021, and the Lyriq will have a base price of $59,900 which is before any markups and other assorted fees. Buyers that sign on the dotted line will get up to 300 miles of range and a CUV that will certainly draw plenty of stares as it slinks its way down city streets and other urban locales.
