The Hyundai Sonata N Line is already an exciting performance sedan in a segment feeling the heat from surging utility vehicle demand. But what if you’re looking for a Sonata N that channels the inner darkness of your performance desires while also paying tribute to G.I. Joe? Hyundai thinks it has the answer with the all-new Sonata N Line Night Edition.
The Eyes Of The Serpent Gaze Upon This Sonata
While this flavor of the Sonata does not pay homage to an iconic Cobra-badged muscle car, Hyundai claims that the serpent this model pays homage to is sneaky ninja Snake Eyes who will headline Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origin Stories. While the G.I. Joe franchise doesn’t have quite the same merchandising power that it had in the 80’s it still has a strong fanbase.
As for the car itself, it doesn’t stray too far from what we have seen in other Night models (or other black-out specials for that matter), with all the chrome trim pieces being replaced with sinister blacked-out components. That includes the mirror caps, trim exclusive 19-inch blacked-out wheels, and a slick coat of Phantom Black Paint. Red-hued calipers help add some contrast, while a carbon rear spoiler and carbon fiber patterned wheel caps add an extra pinch of sportiness. Our favorite feature is the badging with Hyundai designers adding a coating of dark chrome that helps conceal the H emblems.
When Can I Buy A Sonata Night Edition?
Hyundai didn’t release distribution info on the Sonata N Line Night Edition but confirmed that this model would be a limited release with only 1,000 examples built. Each one will have a base sticker of $35,775. That’s a $1,300 premium when compared to a standard Sonata N Line. However, you still get some of the core essentials, including an interior with grippy sport seats and light splashes of metal accents, as well as a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
