Chevrolet Teases Silverado ZR2, Promises Better Capabilities And More

The current generation Chevrolet Silverado Trailboss had alot of promise when it first appeared, with the bow-tie brand claiming that the model would be the go-to truck for buyers looking for more off-road capability. But with the Ram TRX and the Ford F-150 Raptor on the scene, the Trailboss’s ability to indeed be a boss on the road less traveled was understandably questioned by many. However, Chevrolet wants to reclaim that title and has confirmed that the ZR2 package (once a Colorado exclusive) is now coming to the bigger Silverado.

It Certainly Sounds Meaner

Chevrolet’s brief teaser video followed the established tradition that has come to define GM’s promotional efforts, with plenty of right noises mixing with very minimal visible details. However, some subtle clues do appear once you have the opportunity to examine the brief video clip in detail. The engine certainly sounds capable of delivering the performance goods, with the bellow of a powerful V8 being an unmistakable audio calling card.

The Silverado ZR2 could also lift a few pages from the smaller Colorado’s playbook with a tweaked version of the Multimatic DSSV dampers potentially being equipped to the truck. These novel dampers have proven to be a very potent selling point for the Colorado ZR2, and their appearance on the Silverado could have the same effect on Silverado sales. The exterior styling would also differ from the Trailboss in several ways, with the Silverado potentially having a radically altered front fascia to help improve ground clearance. Look for the truck to also follow others when offering some of the expected off-road equipment. That includes larger off-road tires, enhanced skid plate protection, and sturdier rims to help handle rock crawling duties.

When Will We See The 2022 Silverado ZR2?

While Chevrolet chose not to reveal any further details on the 2022 ZR2 (for now), the appearance of this latest teaser video seems to suggest that the ZR2 could appear sooner than we anticipated, with the truck potentially making its appearance sometime in 2022. We look forward to hearing more, and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any further developments as they become available.
