Dodge will have a very busy summer ahead of it. While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the Woodward Dream Cruise, and the Roadkill Nights drag event that precedes it, Dodge customers are still enjoying there vehicles, and sales are still moving at such a pace, that Dodge will have to skip the traditional summer plant shutdown to meet demand. In addition, the 2021 Dodge model lineup will be making its way to dealerships soon, and the brand chose to tease it in grand style, with a unique rendition of the national anthem.
The anthem is part of a teaser video that Dodge released via its Youtube page, and in addition to the electric guitar, it also features the brand’s 6.2 liter supercharged Hellcat V8, which contributes a combination of high speed revving, upshifts, downshifts, and strategically placed supercharger whines. The end result is certainly very unique, and it actually pairs well with the electric guitar to produce a distinctly patriotic hymn.
“The sound of a screaming supercharged HEMI is so distinctive that this teaser video doesn’t need a single image… if you know, you know,” Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars at FCA North America. “Tune in July 2 to celebrate with Dodge the pursuit of life, liberty and 8,950 horsepower.”
That last figure certainly has our attention and all for the right reasons. The 2020 model lineup makes alot of horsepower as it is, but add it all up, and you don’t even come close to that figure. This is a strong indicator that Dodge engineers have perhaps made some performance upgrades to some of their models, including the SRT lineup. While we suspect that the Hellcat will not see much attention this time considering that it had its horsepower bumped up for the 2020 model year, we suspect that the bulk of the upgrades will be found with the other engines. This includes the 6.4 liter Hemi V8 that sees notable duty in the Dodge Challenger and Charger Scat Packs. It’s also known that the Dodge Durango is due to be refreshed soon, and perhaps some extra horsepower will be a part of the package. Look for all questions to be revealed when Dodge will formally unveil things on July 2nd. In the meantime, the brand plans to release three more teaser videos, and Kuniskis himself chose to end things for now with this quote.
“If you listen closely, and we know our fans will, you will get a taste of what’s coming for Dodge//SRT in 2021,” Kuniskis explained. “We think our fans will pick up on a few key notes.”
