2021 Acura TLX Teases All New Suspension, Promises Sharper Cornering Behavior

Acura has big plans for the 2021 TLX, with the Japanese luxury car brand placing all of its chips on the TLX being a potential game changer in the sport sedan segment. While we will have to wait a bit to find out if the TLX can indeed live up to its promises, Acura has released a brand new teaser today that highlights some of the new suspension technology that will make their respective debuts in the new model.

The company claims that the 2021 TLX will be “the quickest, best-handling, and most well-appointed sport sedan in Acura history.” While the company released a teaser showing the rear of the car awhile back, this recent image not only teases the front fascia, but also appears to confirm that the TLX will in fact come equipped with a double wishbone front suspension. The suspension will be mated to a new sport sedan platform that will be exclusive to Acura. While the TLX nameplate itself is not that old (it first made its debut in 2015,) the addition of a double wishbone suspension can be viewed as a return to roots measure that is part of Acura’s broader attempts at trying to reclaim the sporty identity that it once had during its early years of existence. This was quite apparent in the 1990s when models such as the original NSX and the Integra helped the brand develop a significant cult following with young buyers. The exterior styling in particular is largely similar to the Type S concept, with the rear fascia in particular borrowing a healthy amount of its DNA from that stylish show car.

Acura is keeping other performance details to itself until the unveiling, but the car is rumored to be powered by an all new 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 which is slated to potentially make over 300 horsepower. This would put the TLX much firmly in the cross-hairs of other models including the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and other segment benchmarks.

Acura will be unveiling the 2021 TLX via a virtual unveiling on May 28th at 1:00 pm EST via the Acura.com website. Look for many questions to be answered at the unveiling including fuel economy, availability, as well as the final engine that will be offered for the model.
