How is Pagani’s sales team performing in the face of the all-new P1 and LaFerrari? So well! They are in heaven right now after the US import process finally approved the Huayra after about four years of effort — and more than one real-life crash test. Wrecking a million dollars on purpose!?
The US market really is worth it for Pagani — and we are thrilled to have them.
Pagani’s huge rise to greatness has avoided the key pitfall of many hypercar brands: unsustainable growth.
Luckily, the hand-crafted carbon-fiber chassis and bodywork of the Huayra makes any kind of volume production a distant, distant daydream.
Not only does Pagani lay and autoclave each piece itself from the fabric forward; nearly every metal component is also machined (on site, from billet alloy blocks) one-by-one as well.
This ensures two things:
— Horacio’s dream of every single component being a work of art — even on its own
— A waiting list for the still-made Zonda and new Huayra that stretches far beyond even Ferrari’s best wet dreams: 40-months and counting.
This makes sense: Pagani has only put his name on about 95 cars in total over these last 12 years or so — making them even more exclusive than the Koenigsegg’s that are likely the car’s closest competitor.
These rear-drive hypercars are both far more challenging and dauynting to drive fast versus the Veyron, whose all-wheel-drive and 350-plus unit run make it quite the fool-proof city car by comparison.
With all the world’s respect and a years-long order book — we might be silly to wonder: What is next for the Huayra and Pagani?
The Carbon Edition is new-for-2014, but we have a few other ideas. Stay tuned for upcoming articles featuring a fantasy colorizer and even some Extreme and Spyder renderings!
