Aston Martin is often considered the brand of choice when it comes to James Bond with the Secret Agent seldom moving outside of Aston’s orbit for his vehicular needs. Aston Martin also knows that the movie franchise has been a core part of its recent history and has formally unveiled its rolling tribute to the movie Goldfinger which introduced the iconic DB5 to the franchise with a special Goldfinger Edition DB12.
This DB12 has gold in all the right places
This particular DB12 was extensively customized by Aston Martin’s Q division which is a nod to the Movie’s Q division where Bond got all of his special gadgets and tools. From the outside, the DB12 Goldfinger doesn’t stray too far from the standard model with the bulk of the exterior styling being largely unchanged. However, that gives some of the exclusive details a chance to shine with the car being slathered in Silver Birch paint to match the iconic DB5 and 21-inch multi-spoke wheels to replicate the vintage wire spoke ones. Exclusive badging and Gold-hued air strakes round out the bespoke suit of clothes and allow the DB12 Goldfinger to have an understated appearance.
Thankfully, understated does not define the interior with Q designers going all out in their attempt to make the cabin radiate with luxury. That’s more than a mere buzz word too with Q infusing the center console with 18k gold-plated accents. The shiny stuff is found on the rotary dial for the various drive modes as well as the gear selector and the climate controls. The center knob itself is slightly different from the standard one but it mimics the gold tracking used by 007 in the movie.
Metallic gold fibers were also woven into the carbon fiber accents and the seats get the same Prince of Wales pattern mimicking Bond’s suit with the theme also bleeding into the door cards. The leather itself has a fluted look that is similar to the DB5’s and movie buffs will want to keep an eye out for the eight-of-hearts logo in the driver’s sun visor which mimics a scene in the film.Â
Get this DB12 while you can
With all the precious metal that’s infused into this DB12, it should come as no surprise that the DB12 Goldfinger will have a limited production run with the company planning to only build 60 examples of the Goldfinger before the line stops. Buyers that have the wallet required to pay the currently unreleased price will receive several exclusive goodies to tell them they are not in a run-of-the-mill DB12.
They include a car cover and a bespoke box for the key with a Silver Birch speed form model (typically used by dealers to show off the paint colors) also being bundled in. Other more extravagant add-ins include a 1-of-60 edition of Aston Martin magazine, an individually numbered bottle of champagne and four accompanying glasses, and a section of the Furka Pass scene from Goldfinger that’s preserved in 35 mm film.
