Bentley is embarking on a gradual transition towards an EV-only lineup with the brand still moving full speed ahead on its attempt to redefine its future. However, the British ultra-luxury brand also knows that a gradual move into EVs is needed to help their customers not feel rushed into an electrified vehicle and that’s why it has been focusing on adding more hybrid options to its existing lineup of ICE-powered vehicles. The latest model to get the treatment is the 2025 Bentley Flying Spur Speed which attempts to blend performance with efficiency to create a bespoke unified package.
Light changes outside and inside hide potent Flying Spur performance underneath
The exterior styling of the 2025 Flying Spur gets a light refresh but while the core shape carries over from before, the front fascia gets an all-new front grille, headlights, front bumper, rear diffuser, and wheels. Bentley even redid most of the brightwork on the car with the shiny bits now being covered in dark bits of trim. As expected, the choice of colors on the Flying Spur is vast with several custom hues joining the already impressive roster of exterior colors.
The interior is mostly carried over but new seats make their appearance for 2025 with Bentley using a new 3D diamond quilt pattern and perforations. Thankfully, the bulk of the attention was given to the infotainment system which now gets wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay for the first time ever. A new climate control system has also been added and Bentley even made its nifty “Wellness Seating Specification feature available for all four seats.
PHEV performance gives Flying Spur more juice
Performance for the Flying Spur Speed comes from Bentley’s “Ultra Performance Hybrid” powertrain which consists of the brand’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, and an electric motor with the latter item getting juice from a large 25.9 kWh battery pack. The combination allows the Spur to make 771 hp which is enough to get the big sedan to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. Bentley also says that the electric motor allows the model to go 47 miles on pure electric power but that figure is measured on the WTLP cycle and we have to wait a bit to see how that measures up when it’s rated in the U.S. EV mode also allows the big Bentley to go up to 87 mph before the gasoline engine takes over to pick up the slack.
The battery pack can be recharged either by the engine or by plugging it in with the company saying that the pack can go from empty to fully charged in 2.75 hours when the car is hooked up to an 11 kW charger. The suspension gets a new twin-valve dampening system and other changes to the steering help sharpen up its handling manners too.
When can I buy one?
Bentley says that it will continue providing updates to the Flying Spur Speed as its production run continues but chose to not release the official pricing ladder for the Speed just yet. Expect pricing to go up slightly from the outgoing model though it remains to be seen how much of an increase buyers will see when they sign on the dotted line.
