Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 EV has proven to not only be a popular choice among EV buyers but also a flexible canvas when it comes to specialty models with the Ioniq N serving as a small glimpse of what the Ioniq 5 can do when allowed to roam out on the race track. This time around, the Korean car giant is focusing on the road less traveled with the introduction of the trail-ready XRT model which will spearhead the broader updates that the company has applied to the refreshed model for 2025.
Ioniq 5 XRT is trail-ready for any occasion
The XRT is the second specialty model in the Ioniq 5 family and is also the latest member of the broader XRT lineup with the moniker denoting Hyundai products that are focused on light trail running. In the case of the Ioniq 5, this enhanced capability comes in the form of a 0.9-inch suspension lift, unique tuning of the aforementioned suspension, and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The exterior styling also gets unique front and rear bumpers with Hyundai adding a “digital camouflage” motif to them. The front bumpers also get red painted tow hooks which can pull over 5,834 when asked to do so.
The XRT will also get two new colors, Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl with unique badging rounding out the list of exterior changes. Hyundai didn’t confirm if any additional shielding was added to the underside to help protect the floor-mounted battery but we suspect that the standard shielding is in place. The interior also gets trim exclusive seat upholstery and other minor changes.
Part of broader changes for Ioniq 5
The appearance of the XRT is also part of a broader suite of updates that Hyundai is giving all Ioniq 5 models for the 2025 model year. The base battery pack grows from 58 kWh to 63 kW while the bigger battery pack grows from 77.3 to 84 kWh. The XRT gets the bigger battery pack standard with the beefier dual-motor setup (it gets AWD as a result) also being standard. All Ioniq 5’s also get a new NACS-style charging port which allows the Ioniq 5 to get access to all of Tesla’s Supercharging stations which doubles the amount of DC charging stations that are now available to owners.
The company will also continue to provide a CCS charger for buyers who want to have the right plug for their car at all times. The exterior gets minor revisions but the interior gets a new climate control layout, USB-C charging ports, physical seat heater controls, and Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability for the infotainment system.
When can I buy one?
Pricing information for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 wasn’t released but the firm said that the Ioniq 5 will now be eligible for a $3,750 tax credit due to the EV being produced at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) facility in Georgia. There was also no word if the N model will come back for the 2025 model year but look for this spicy track special to eventually make its return in the near future.
