The Ford Mustang is celebrating its 60th birthday and the company is pulling out all the stops in making sure that the bday bash is filled with thrills and chills. That also includes giving potential Mustang owners plenty of party favors with the company unveiling the 2024 Mustang 60th Anniversary model on the streets of Woodward which not only gets a new color but also a visual tribute to the legendary SVT Cobra.
SVT Cobra gauges pay homage to 1990s Mustangs
One of the biggest changes that Mustang buyers will notice are the new SVT Cobra gauges that are now available in the digital instrument cluster. These gauges are clones of the ones that were used on the 1999-2001 Cobra models with those models getting a white face and black numbering versus other Cobra models that had minor changes to them. The gauges will be part of an available Over The Air Update package and will be available to all Mustang owners. These gauges build on other retro gauges that the company released including those that mimic the 1980s Fox body model as well as the 1967 original.
Special digital treats like this one have been a core part of the Mustang’s 60th anniversary celebration and look for Ford to roll out more surprises as the year comes to a close.
Brittany Blue adds new hue to the Mustang mix
In addition to the spiffy gauges, Ford also confirmed that Brittany Blue will be joining the color pool for 2024. Unlike the gauges, the color is limited to 60th Anniversary models only and will also be a rare application with the company saying that the hue will only be used on a small percentage of the 1,965 production units that will be getting the 60th anniversary treatment.
That rarity can also explain why the company is forcing buyers to go through an application process for the chance to get a Brittany Blue equipped Mustang. While there won’t be as many hoops to jump through as it is for GTD registration, look for Ford to still be selective on who gets the honor of having Brittany Blue be used for their Mustang model.
When can I buy one?
Ford will be opening up the application process for the Brittany Blue color starting on August 16th before closing the registration window on the 19th. The 60th anniversary models themselves are rolling out to dealerships now with buyers being able to choose from a coupe or convertible. They will have to pay a bit of a premium though with a base 60th Anniversary model starting at $65,245 which is $1,000 more than the much more powerful Dark Horse model.
