2025 Ford Mavrick Lobo Brings Street Performance To The Maverick Family

When Ford unveiled the 2025 Maverick, the company made it clear that the updated truck would continue to appeal to budget-minded customers looking for a sensible pickup offering. While we thought the range-topping Tremor was going to be the flagship for the Maverick lineup, it turns out that Ford had a surprise up its sleeve with the 2025 Maverick Lobo which brings the Maverick into the street performance segment.

Lobo is styled for the street

While the Maverick Lobo’s name doesn’t roll off the tongue quite as gracefully as the old SVT creations that defined Ford’s efforts in this arena. The truck is supposed to transport buyers to an era where lowered versions of popular pickups dominated the streets with models like the Tacoma X-Runner and the old Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme catering to younger buyers.

The Lobo gets alot of its exterior styling from other Maverick models with the front grille, LED headlights and the core shape all being carried over from the rest of the family. In the case of the Lobo, it’s the subtle details that aim to make the truck stand out with the darkened front grille being complimented by model-exclusive 19-inch dish-style alloy wheels and a tweaked front bumper that allows for more air to reach the bigger radiator. The rear bumper is painted to match the rest of the truck and rocker moldings further enhance its profile out on the street.

The interior gets inspiration from street art with the interior getting Grabber Blu and Electric Lime stitching, a graffiti-inspired motif on the seats, and the Lobo name embossed on the seat backs. To help keep configuration simple, the Lobo comes in two flavors; the base standard layout and a richer High variant that adds more equipment to the truck including a 360-degree camera system, a heated steering wheel and front seats, and other goodies.

Carryover engine is paired with tweaked suspension

All Lobo models are powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder which is carried over from the outgoing Maverick. But while the engine may be carried over with no changes, Ford engineers chose to instead focus their efforts in other areas. The half-inch lower ride height is more than just a mere visual trick and the upgraded components work together with the revised steering system to improve handling.

The Lobo also gets a twin-clutch rear drive unit that’s borrowed from the Bronco Sport with the front brake calipers being borrowed from the Europe-only Focus ST. A new Lobo mode helps improve steering, grip, and performance with Ford saying the new mode was inspired by drifting and autocross and also helps reduce understeer.

When can I buy one?

Ordering for the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is now open with the model starting at just over $40,000 with the High grade adding a bit more premium to the price. Ford says that the Lobo and the Tremor are supposed to represent two extremes of the Maverick’s personality and this split persona will help the 2025 Maverick appeal to a wider range of consumers.
