Maserati Pays Tribute To MC12 With MC20 Icona and Leggenda Special Editions

Exactly 20 years ago, Maserati went racing with the MC12 which brought the Italian brand back into motor racing after a four-decade absence. The MC12 was an extreme expression of Maserati’s performance DNA and the MC20 is the figurative successor to this legend with the twelve-cylinder being swapped out for a V6.

Maserati is preparing to celebrate this anniversary with a pair of special edition models, the MC20 Icona and Leggenda.

Styling tweaks give these MC20 special editions swagger

Both of these special editions feature paintwork and livery that’s borrowed from the MC12. In the case of the Icona its Bianco Audace Matte and Blue Stradale two-tone paintwork is a reminder of the MC12 Stradale which was built in low production to comply with racing regulations at the time.

The Leggenda draws inspiration from the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone with this one swapping out the blue and white for a two-tone combination that consists of Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte. In addition to the slick paintwork, Maserati also gives both of these special editions bespoke upgrades via the company’s Fuoriserie Personalization Program. The Icona gets white Fuoriserie logos near the rear wheels and Italian flag motifs on the fenders. The center caps get blue tridents and the brake calipers are also blue.

The Leggendra gets darkened alloy wheels with mint-colored tridents in the center caps with yellow badging adding contrast to the paintwork. The interior gets four-way racing seats but the Leggendra gets silver accent stitching while the Icona gets blue accents. Performance for the two comes from the familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 621 hp.

Production numbers are evenly split

Maserati revealed that to coincide with its 20th anniversary celebrations, both the Icona and the Leggendra special editions will have a limited production run with the company building 20 units each for a total of 40 before production on both of these special edition models end.

Pricing wasn’t released but look for the pair to be a noticeable bump up in price when compared to a standard issue MC20.
