Tesla’s Cybertruck Gets Software Update To Make It More Capable

While the Tesla Cybertruck began rolling out to customers five months ago, it was readily apparent that it was missing some core pickup truck features and was instead relying on some of its core essentials to make a crack at breaking through the EV pickup segment. That’s changing with the company confirming that a new software update will help add some luster to the Cybertruck’s capabilities.

Off-roading Is Now In The Cards For Cybertruck

A key provision in this update is that the truck gets a new Off-Road mode with many of the new features Tesla added being found in this mode. Off-Road mode itself improves the truck’s handling over rocks, sand, gravel, and deep snow. The mode also uses the truck’s locking differentials which are only available on dual and triple motor variants.

Trail Assist also helps improve low-speed cruising behavior on uneven terrain while the newly available Baja mode helps improve handling and balance when the stability control is set to minimal intervention. While it will be interesting to see if the bulk of Cybertruck users will actually make use of these features, look for their addition to provide an extra blanket of confidence especially when showing off your new rig to your friends.

Other Updates Add Depth To Truck

In addition to improving its trail manners, the updates also improve the truck’s ability to provide long-term usability. A tweaked piece of software allows the truck to estimate total payload better and to adjust the suspension accordingly while the CyberTent mode flattens the suspension and leaves the lights and outlets powered to allow occupants to sleep inside the truck.

These updates also come at an interesting time for the truck with the model going through some early teething pains including problems with its stainless steel body panels and a recent recall to address unintended acceleration due to a faulty accelerator pedal.
