When we had the chance to see the 2025 Mazda CX-70 up close in New York a short while ago, Mazda wasn’t ready to talk about pricing for what was essentially a two-row version of the CX-90. Thankfully, the company didn’t make us wait very long to get the answer with the Japanese auto giant releasing final figures for the two-row SUV which turns out to be more than the CX-90.
CX-70 Wants How Much For Two Rows?
At first glance, we were understandably puzzled about what we were seeing in the overall pricing ladder. The CX-70 will only be offered in what would typically be the higher part of the CX-90’s trim ladder and that’s evident when you look at the “base” Turbo Preferred model which starts at $41,820. That’s a noticeable bump up over the base three-row CX-90 which starts at $39,220. Meanwhile, the most expensive trim goes to the PHEV Premium Plus trim which starts at $58,825. That’s also higher than its three-row cousin and it makes you pause for a moment after you crunch the numbers. We have included a pricing ladder of all the trims below.
CX-70 3.3 Turbo Preferred | $41,820 |
CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium | $47,275 |
CX-70 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus | $50,275 |
CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium | $53,825 |
CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus | $57,325 |
CX-70 PHEV Premium | $55,775 |
CX-70 PHEV Premium Plus | $58,825 |
It’s not known if the CX-90 will see its pricing ladder reworked for 2025 or not but chances are good that Mazda will tweak it slightly to help reduce the gap in price between it and the CX-70.
Matching Performance Makes CX-70 Road Trip Star
Performance for the Mazda CX-70 is also shared with the CX-90 and the two engines here also mirror their family-focused counterpart with the 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six serving as the volume engine with this powerplant being offered in two tunes that make 280 hp and 343 hp. The PHEV on the other hand is powered by a smaller four-cylinder that’s paired with a hybrid system and an electric motor. An eight-speed automatic is standard on both trims and all-wheel drive is also standard.
Mazda says that the CX-70 is supposed to embody a distinctly different personality when compared to the CX-90 and Mazda even says it is targeting adventure seekers and customers that lead exciting lifestyles with some features like the rear-mounted cargo organizer built to help drive home this point.
