When Dodge revealed that it was saying goodbye to the Charger and Challenger muscle cars, the performance brand promised that it still had a surprise or two up its sleeve. One of them was the all-electric SRT Daytona concept which wowed the crowds gathered at M1 raceway in Pontiac, Michigan. We had a bit of a wait since then, but Dodge has chosen to reveal (kinda) the next chapter of performance with several teaser images of the next-generation Charger.
Next-Generation Charger Pays Homage To The 1960s
With the Challenger name still MIA for now, Dodge says these early images of a pre-production Charger are our clearest view yet of the next-generation muscle car. The outgoing model was a curious mixture of retro and modern elements with the Charger having a look that focused on modern lines. This next-generation model will play heavily into the past with the front fascia bearing a striking resemblance to the SRT Daytona concept. The headlights have been reworked and the grille now incorporates a lighted accent in the lower portion of the grille itself with the Fratzog logo placed front and center. The side profile has a prominent up-kick that draws the eye towards the rear of the car. Here, the LED taillights appear to be reworked versions of the LED racetrack-look unit that saw duty on older Chargers and it still looks good here.
Dodge chose to not show any images of the interior and a bunch of whacky angles and the occasional chain-link fence keeps observers from seeing the essential angles. However, it’s obvious that Dodge has been listening to feedback from current owners especially Charger owners who wanted an entry that did a better job paying homage to its classic 1960s roots. An EV version was also seemingly confirmed in a separate photo we saw later with the rear of the Charger sporting the embossed Daytona script and no exhaust tips. This could also point to a simple trim ladder with the Daytona being the new range-topper while lower trims would have a gasoline powertrain.
When Can I Buy One?
Dodge revealed that the next-generation Charger will go on sale later this year potentially as an early2025 model. Look for the model to have a similar early reservation program in place like the Ram 1500 REV with those early deposit holders having the opportunity to turn their deposit into a formal purchase at a later date.
We hope to learn more about the final engine lineup for the Charger and also see images of the interior to find out if the cabin follows through on some of the wild lines that we saw on the original SRT Daytona concept.
