2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Electrifies N Performance, Will Spearhead Future EV Performance Models

When we last saw the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N it was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the Korean car giant staging an elaborate demonstration on the fabled course that showed off a small taste of its performance capabilities. However, eager enthusiasts in the United States were left in the dark regarding when the performance-infused SUV would hit our shores. Hyundai has revealed the answer however with the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N which is debuting in L.A. as a U.S. spec variant and we even got more information about what it will bring to customers here on our shores.

Ioniq 5 N Brings 641 Horsepower To Performance Party

A key detail that Hyundai revealed was the official performance estimates for the model with the company confirming that the Ioniq 5 N will make a combined system output of 641 horsepower from its beefed-up electric motors which lines up with what we learned at Goodwood. A prominent catch here is that this figure is only obtainable temporarily when the driver uses “N Grin Boost” mode with the EV making the sprint to 60 mph in 3.25 seconds when it is active. Otherwise, it makes a slightly tamer (and we use that latter word loosely) 601 hp. This is a noticeable step up from other N models we have seen with the ICE ones being defined by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 276 hp.

While the company admits that the N model does gain some weight over the standard Ioniq 5 (which will affect its still unrevealed range number) it benefits from extensive upgrades to its brakes, suspension, and battery technology with the model getting its juice from an 84 kWh battery pack. The interior also gets its fair share of upgrades including sport-focused front seats and revised interior materials. U.S. models will also have several colors for buyers to choose from; Performance Matte Blue, Soultronic Orange, Atlas White Abyss Black Pearl, and Ecotronic Gray Matte. That’s less than what you get on global versions but it’s still a good degree of variety for buyers looking to build one to their unique tastes.

When Can I Buy One?

Hyundai is still not ready to reveal official U.S. pricing for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N but confirmed that the first models will begin making their way to Hyundai showrooms in March of 2024. We look forward to learning more about the final range number as well as the pricing ladder which would put the N against rivals from Tesla and other EV brands looking to make their mark on the performance EV sub-segment.
