The Toyota 4Runner has been a time capsule when it comes to providing buyers with old-school SUV charms and capability. The 4Runner, as we currently know it will eventually be replaced with an all-new next-generation model, but for now, the company is making us wait a bit longer and has unveiled some light updates for the 2024 Toyota 4Runner.
4Runner TRD Pro Gets New Color, Not Much Else For 2024
With the exterior and the interior not changing at all for 2024, Toyota chose to focus this light update package on colors, with the TRD Pro model getting a new exterior color called Terra. This earth-tone paint will also be joined by another new color called Underground, which is available on other 4Runner models. The 40th Anniversary model also leaves the trim ladder for 2024 as well.
The 4Runner still has seating for seven passengers, and the interior accommodations and features will also carry over (for better or for worse) into the new model year as well. The performance hardware will still be unchanged too, with all models being powered by the familiar 4.0-liter V6 that makes 270-hp and is mated to an equally ancient 5-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive can be added as an option to select rims, with others getting 4×4 capability standard.
When Will See The Next Generation Model?
The appearance of this lightly updated 2024 4Runner suggests that Toyota is not ready to reveal the next generation model just yet and is expecting the current generation model to hold down the fort for a few more years. As such, it’s tough to pinpoint when we’ll see the next generation 4Runner, with Toyota so far being tight-lipped when asked about the subject.
However, look for the wait to be perhaps nearing the end, and we could perhaps learn more sometime next year or in 2025 when the 4Runner’s strong pool of loyalists will force the company to make a move to not only keep their loyalty to the model but also create a 4Runner that can better appeal to younger buyers especially Generation Z drivers that are just now entering the driving world.
