When Genesis teased the GV80 Coupe as a thinly disguised concept, it was no secret that it caught our attention at the show. Without confirming or denying that the concept was production-bound, Genesis tried to maintain a veil of secrecy. However, it was obvious that the brand was planning on bringing the fight to rivals, and it has confirmed our suspicions with the all-new 2025 GV80 Coupe.
GV80 Coupe Brings Showcar Looks To Dealer Lots
The production version of the GV80 Coupe carries over alot of the traits that made the original show car such a hit with show attendees. The model gets either 20 or 22-inch wheels, and buyers are also able to choose from 13 different colors, including Bering Blue, with that hue being exclusive to the GV80 coupe. A sportier roofline will be the dominant calling card of this model, and range-topping versions will get a quad exhaust system. These same updates will also come to the standard GV80, but we’ll focus on the coupe variant from now on.
The interior gets a large 27-inch infotainment screen with crystalized controls, but the all-bucket seat affair in the original concept has been pitched, with the production version now getting leather-lined front seats and a three-person rear bench seat. That’s a shame, but with Genesis looking to emphasize the utility and passenger-hauling abilities of the coupe, it’s an understandable omission. The interior also gets higher quality materials, and buyers can choose from some nifty two-tone combinations.
Turbocharged Performance Continues To Be Prominent Theme
Performance for the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe will follow the same basic theme that we have seen in other Genesis offerings, with the base model being powered by a 300-horsepower, 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with higher trims getting access to the optional 3.5-liter, twin-turbo, V6 that makes 375 horsepower. A second version of the V6 adds an electrically operated supercharger to the mix that helps push horsepower up to 409-horsepower.
Genesis didn’t reveal what transmission will be hooked up to the engine lineup but look for the eight-speed automatic from the outgoing model to continue seeing duty in the 2025 model. Rear-wheel drive will continue to be standard, but buyers can add an optional all-wheel drive system to help give the GV80 four-season capability. This performance also allows the GV80 Coupe to be on par with rivals like the BMW X6, Mercedes GLE Class, and the Range Rover Velar.
Genesis plans to publicly reveal both the 2025 GV80 and the GV80 coupe at the Busan International Film Festival next month, with the pair going on sale in South Korea on October 11th. Look for them to then make their way to the U.S. shortly after, with the first models possibly appearing in dealer lots towards the end of the year.
