The Chevrolet Camaro will be entering retirement at the end of the 2024 model year. Before it leaves, Chevrolet will be releasingone final special edition model to buyers, the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro Collector’s Edition.
Camaro Collector’s Edition Pays Homage To The Past
While the 2024 Camaro Collector’s Edition is not the over-the-top farewell that some muscle car fans were expecting, it’s a homage to the past, with the model paying tribute to its Panther project code name, which was first used in the early 1960s. The Collector’s Edition will be available on all Camaro trim levels and will be largely a styling package with all models getting Panther Black exterior paint. SS models get a gloss black version of the hue, while the ZL1 gets a matte-hued version. The matte paint is the first time such a color has ever been offered on a Camaro, and all models also get black wheels and stripes too. LT and SS models can also be equipped with polished Gloss Black wheels.
Other upgrades include 1LE-sourced front spoilers across the whole trim ladder, and LT and SS models get a ZL1-inspired rear wing while the ZL1 itself gets a ZL1 1LE rear wing treatment. Convertibles don’t get rear wings due to the unique needs of the folding top, but they still manage to look stylish in their own unique way. Panther badges also make their appearance in the fender lettering as well as the steering wheel.
Performance for the Collector’s Edition mirrors what we have already seen in the standard lineup, with a 335-hp 3.6-liter V6 serving as the base engine. Meanwhile, SS models get a 6.2-liter 455-horsepower V8, with the ZL1 adding a supercharger that boosts power up to 650-hp.
When Can I Buy One?
Chevrolet didn’t reveal official pricing for the 2024 Camaro Collector’s Edition but did reveal that order books for the model will open up in June, with Camaro production as a whole slated to wrap up in early January. Buyers that place an order will not only get the car but also get a number of freebies, including two posters as well as a Shinola watch for folks that order the ZL1 version.
The Camaro’s departure is bittersweet since it will also be joining the Dodge Challenger and Charger in retirement, with the Ford Mustang once again being left all alone in the affordable sports car/muscle car segment.
