Toyota is nearing the end of its teaser campaign for the revamped 2024 Toyota Tacoma, but the company chose to not only reveal May 19th will be the day that it will make its official debut but also several cab configurations (albeit hidden by a layer of shadows.)
Configurability Will Play Bigger Role In Tacoma Experience
When we last saw the 2024 Tacoma, we saw the delightfully bonkers Tacoma TrailHunter model. This time Toyota released four teaser images of the different configurations that Tacoma owners will be able to choose from when the revamped truck makes its way to dealerships. The darkened background makes it hard to discern key details about the truck (it even defeated our photo editing software), but it’s easy to see that the revamped Tacoma will share much of its inspiration with the bigger Tundra. While we are confident that it will not be a mere case of a Tundra that got shrink-wrapped, there are a few Tundra elements that bleed into the design. They include LED daytime running lights and the familiar Tundra-like shape for the rear end and the bed.
The configurations themselves make it difficult to know what exact trim levels these trucks are, but the lone exception is the truck with the bed-mounted sport bars and the roof rack, which we can safely say is the TrailHunter. Look for the overall dimensions to grow slightly compared to the outgoing Tacoma. Mid-size pickups have become a popular safe haven for family buyers looking to get a more affordable pickup option, and we suspect that Toyota is catering to these buyers by making changes to the platform that will not only make the truck bigger but also provide more interior room too.
Performance hardware will also be updated, with the aging V6 most likely being replaced with two turbocharged four-cylinder engines. This would follow in step (ironically) with the bigger Tundra, which ditched its V-8 engine for a smaller V6. Better fuel economy will be the primary reason for the rumored switch but look for owners to also benefit from the enhanced levels of performance the engines would offer, which is far from what could be said for the base four-cylinder engine and the bigger V6 in the outgoing model.
When Will We See The 2024 Toyota Tacoma Lineup
Toyota revealed that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma lineup will make its debut on May 19th. While that date does not fall on a Tuesday (sorry Taco Tuesday fans), there will still be plenty to look forward to, especially since the Tacoma will bring the manual transmission back for the new model year. The availability of a manual transmission will continue to make Tacoma an outlier in its segment since virtually all of its rivals have automatic transmissions only and don’t offer a manual transmission of their own.
