Mattel and its lineup of Barbie dolls have had a long and very storied career of global success. But when Barbie is not moonlighting as the ultimate freelance worker for hire (remember when she was an astronaut?) She also has the toy car market covered, with numerous Jeeps, RVs, and even a few Corvettes adorned with the Barbie logo over the years. However, the iconic doll is about to get her most exotic ride yet, thanks to a new partnership between Maserati and Mattel that involves the all-new Grecale Barbie Edition.
Grecale Barbie Edition Looks Pretty In Pink, Moves Like A Beast
Like the F Tributo models we recently covered, the Barbie Edition is largely a style package with the body being coated in a vibrant shade of pink while Acid Yellow contrast accents are added to key places like the front grille and the fender ports. A specialized top coat process gives the paint a rainbow effect, and the Barbie script and log appear on the front fenders as well as the C-pillar. A sleek set of black wheels are also part of the package, and the rear features a bold rear diffuser.
The interior continues the Barbie theme, with plenty of pink accents being splashed throughout. The pink is a nod to Maserati’s willingness to explore different color combinations and also follows what we have seen in recent Maserati special edition models. Rounding out the changes is a set of pink adorned B logos on the headrests to drive home further the Barbie and Mattel connection. In the event that Ken feels he’s missing out on performance, fear not, the duo are based on the Trofeo model, with this trim being powered by a 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged V6 good for 523 hp and 427 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to help this fashion statement make the sprint to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds with an eight-speed automatic being the lone transmission offering.
Rarity Is Spotlight Here
Maserati revealed that the Barbie Edition will be limited to only two examples, with each one starting at $330,000. The first one will be available to order in the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog, but we get to wait a bit to hear details about the second example, especially how buyers can order it. In the meantime, that $330k asking price is also for a good cause, with $33,000 of it going to the Barbie Dream Gap project. This organization partners with other charities to improve equality for girls and help them believe in themselves, which in turn gives them the confidence to enter the working world.
As for the Grecale, it’s currently only available in Europe, but it will be making its way to the U.S. this fall. Pricing for a non-Barbie adorned model will begin at $64,995 for the base GT with the Trofeo starting at just over $103,000, a noticeable discount over the Barbie Edition.
