The Genesis GV60 has led a mysterious existence up till now. First appearing as a concept, the GV60 merged controversial styling elements with the E-GMP platform that also sees duty in the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. However, Genesis chose to keep many of the technical aspects of the GV60 close to the vest. However, a new teaser video that the Korean luxury brand released earlier today sheds some new light on the production version of the GV60 concept and confirms that it will be making its debut on September 29th.
GV60 Set To Make Its Mark On September 29th
While the brief teaser video that Genesis released still doesn’t answer questions about the type of performance hardware that lurks underneath the skin, we do get a glimpse of the production front end. At first glance, it appears to be largely carried over from the original concept, with the lower grille pieces retaining some of the futuristic looks that helped shape the slick CUV.
The headlights themselves appear to be the only thing that has been tweaked, though the darkened shadows prevent us from seeing the full scope of the tweaks needed to bring the GV60 up to global safety standards. The original concept promised styling that would be elegantly sporty. It will be interesting to see if the rest of this suit of clothes is carried over to the production version. We hope to see more of the interior, too, with the two images of the concept’s suggesting that Genesis will double down on floating elements, including a floating center console with what appears to be a novel orb-like controller for the shifter.
A big game-changer, though, is that the GV60 will come with wireless charging technology, allowing the GV60 to wirelessly charge via a specially constructed pad, eliminating the need for traditional wired chargers. While this particular feat will take some time to develop formally, rumors suggest that an early pilot program could be created in Korea to test the technology before rolling it out to other global markets.
When Can I Buy A Genesis GV60?
After the Genesis GV60 makes its global debut on September 29th, look for the model to go on sale towards the end of the year in the Korean home market before trickling into other markets in early 2022. The GV60 will be part of a broader green initiative that Genesis will be unleashing over the next few years. That includes eight more EV models by the end of the decade, with the GV60 eventually being joined by an all-electric G80 model, as well as an EV version of the popular GV70 SUV.
