First launched back in 2018, the fight generation Subaru Forester was designed to help the hot-selling utility catch up to the times in terms of styling and technology. The Forester is a hot selling model for the Japanese automaker and has become a must-have transportation tool for many families. But it never hurts to stay fresh, and the company has unveiled the refreshed 2022 Forester in Japan.
Fine Tuning The Forester Essentials
Compared to some of the other updates that we have seen with some of its rivals, the Forester’s suite of changes is relatively minor. The front fascia features slicker-looking headlights and a taller front grille that works together with a redesigned lower bumper to help the Forester better resemble a traditional SUV. We’re not sure why Subaru felt the need to solve this problem since the outgoing Forester is clearly distinctive in its own right. New alloy wheels help add some spice to its profile, but unfortunately, Subaru chose not to release photos of the rear end this time around, so we get to wait to see what changes take place back there.
The renewed focus on rugged functionality could go beyond a mere coincidence with the revisions, possibly making the Forester a prime candidate for a Wilderness model conversion. The Wilderness trim made its debut on the Outback and was designed to appeal to adventure-seeking urbanites.
Beefier Suspension And EyeSight Tech Brings More Capability And Safety To Forester
In addition to the exterior changes, Subaru also made some tweaks to the Forester’s suspension; The company stopped far short of revealing what it exactly did to the suspension, but confirmed that all trim levels will benefit from the changes and that they will allow the Forester to adapt to a wide range of driving situations seamlessly. Could this mean that some form of electronic damping technology is coming to the Forester? Only time will tell.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Forester also benefits from a revamped version of the company’s EyeSight safety technology. The camera that forms the figurative lynchpin of the system now has a wider angle of view to help cover more of the road. In contrast, enhanced software helps speed up the amount of processing and data collection that EyeSight can perform when the Forester is out on the move. Look for other Subaru models to eventually be equipped with the upgraded EyeSight system. Look for the engine lineup here in the U.S. to be roughly similar to that seen in the outgoing model though we would not be shocked if some tweaked horsepower numbers are on the menu.
When Can I Buy A 2022 Subaru Forester?
For the moment, the answer to that question will depend on what part of the world you call home. If you are reading this and you live in Japan, look for the updated version to begin arriving in dealer showrooms during the next few months. However, live outside of Subaru’s home market (i.e., the U.S.) and be prepared to wait a bit longer for the new Forester. Subaru did not disclose when it will be bringing the 2022 Forester to our shores, but look for it to arrive perhaps as early as later this year or early next year.
