When Kia first teased the 2022 Stinger Scorpion Edition, it made it clear that this particular Kia was supposed to be a noticeable step up over the rest of the Stinger lineup. At the time, Kia kept some details surrounding this sinister model to itself, but the Korean car giant has finally relented and has revealed all the details surrounding the apex predator in the Stinger family.
Blacked Out Styling Sharpens Scorpion Edition’s Focus
As you would expect, the bulk of the Stinger’s core DNA is largely carried over to this model. However, the Scorpion Edition stands out by offering more blacked-out accents. That includes splashes of black on the fender trim and the mirror caps. The rear of the Scorpion Edition adds a body-color rear spoiler and blacked-out exhaust tips.
Other welcome touches include blacked-out wheels and the choice of three different hues (Snow White Pearl, Ceramic Silver, and Aurora Black.) if we had our say when it came to crafting the Stinger of our dreams, we would go for either Ceramic Silver or Aurora Black for a more attention-grabbing look that better compliments some of the blacked-out accents. The interior does not stray too far from other Stingers either, but Scorpion Editions do come with faux carbon fiber accents as well as premium Nappa leather seating.
Scorpion Edition Brings The Sting To Performance
The rest of the Kia Stinger lineup benefits from lightly reworked engines, and on the surface, that appears to largely be the case with the Scorpion Edition. The one minor change is that the Scorpion pitches the base 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and instead goes all-in with the twin-turbocharged 368 horsepower 3.3-liter V6 engine. Moving up to the Scorpion Edition also means that you have to move all the way up to the flagship $51,290 GT2 trim, which is the only way you can indulge in this delightful package.
Rarity Will Make Scorpion Edition A Desirable Treat
So you looked everything over and decided that a Scorpion Edition is the right arachnid for your garage. The next question you might be asking is when you can get your hands on it? Kia has good news, bad news approach when it comes to this flavor of the Stinger. The good news is that the Scorpion Edition has already made its way to the broader online configurator for the 2022 Stinger, with Kia revealing that it will be a U.S. market exclusive (sorry international fans.)
The bad news is that the Scorpion Edition will be serving as a first-year-only launch model, and that means you will have to act quickly to secure one of the 250 spots that Kia will be opening up for Scorpion Editon buyers. But if you’re lucky enough to secure a spot, your efforts will not be in vain, with the 2022 Kia Stinger Scorpion Edition being perhaps one of the more underrated sleeper models of 2021 that will certainly live up to its sinister reputation once you get a chance to unlock all of its performance potential.
