Audi has long preferred to put their highest-performing RS handiwork into wagons. The RS6 and now this RS4 can reach such high speeds, the thought is, that the longer roof aids their overall stability and aero.
Whatever gets more people to buy wagons, right?
This new RS4 Avant promises a giant upgrade in thrust thanks to a V6TT making 125 pound-feet of torque more than the previous model. This means the 100-kph sprint time of 4.1 seconds really is just amuse bouche.
This RS4 is all about spine-shredding G-force around corners and through its eight-speed tiptronic’s gears. The bodywork is suitably pumped up all around. A half-inch lower ride height and about an inch in extra width are changes versus the normal A4 Avant. The beautifully integrated new fenders make it seem much more intense an upgrade than those dimensions sound. Wider front fenders, rear doors and rear fenders are stunningly sexy. There are even little breather vents beside the head and taillights where they don’t match the RS width!
Will it make it to the USA? Nothing is confirmed yet, but it seems likelier than ever — as a sedan for the USA. For Euro shoppers, the new RS4 can be ordered now with a sticker of euro $80k. First arrivals are promised by February 2018 as a 2018 model.
