Part One of Six – Alfa Romeo Racing Icons Series

Here is a fun walk back in time — exploring and celebrating the evolution of the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 open-air racecars.

We’re huge fans of the swoopy and wild designs of the hardtop T33’s from the mid-196os. These advanced prototype racers went head-to-head with legends like the Ford GT40 and the Porsche 908 and 917, among many others.

But the legend of the T33 continued well into the 1970s, adapting to new racing rules and new tech innovations to make one of the quickest Alfa Romeo racecars of all time — this 1975 33 TT 12. Running a 3.0-liter flat 12-cylinder engine, the 33TT12 added a cool 60 horsepower over the previous V8 engines.

The 33TT12 also debuted a lightweight fiberglass shell optimized for aero downforce and deep-lunged breathing. The giant central snorkel air intake marks out one of the only upright features on this racing spyder.

One for the ages, yet snapped up for less than some of its predecessors. Just $500k brought this Alfa stunner home from the RM London sale in 2013.
