SALEEN is returning to its core expertise in upgraded Mustangs – with a three-pack of 2015 S302 models now available to order.
The choices are dubbed White Label, Yellow Label and Black Label — with the latter two offering supercharged engine options through the standard stick-shift or automatic transmissions.
The pricing for the supercharged cars starts from $54,000 with the V8 putting out 730 horsepower. The top-flight Black Label S302 adds a significant $20,000 to the pricing, largely thanks to an extensive carbon-fiber exterior makeover, as seen below.
The style changes are a mix of cool — like the giant five-spoke alloys — and less-cool. The nose creates more or a horizontal intake look with gloss-black pillars for the top of the standard Mustang grille frame.
This nose revamp is slightly Camaro-esque in its effect — but definitely does change the look of the Mustang dramatically. In back, a giant spoiler is a bit 1990s for our taste, mounted atop the trunk like a giant blob and looking less than functional at improving aero performance or downforce. The painted B-pillar also confuses – the black window area is one of the Mustang’s nicest design elements.
The seats inside are also a bit of a fatboy special, looking far less intense and performance-focused than the standard Mustang GT’s available Recaro buckets.
Even so, the overhaul of these S302 Mustangs by Saleen seem promising at delivering massively more Mustang thrills to dedicated owners.
