With a name like Colorado, you would definitely expect the vehicle to excel there. And as the fittest state in the nation, Colorado folks love to get outdoors and live the active lifestyle that most people just see in glossy magazine or TV ads. This means skiing, camping, kayaking, biking, hiking and boating.
The new Colorado GearOn Special Edition is a handy way to have a truck that is ready to haul anything right from the factory. Unique style like the gloss-black running boards, gloss-black wheels and body-color grille are a cool look, but the real action for the GearOn trucks happens out back.
The Colorado GearOn’s bed includes the basics for all the dozens of mounting kits you might need, along with the below feature upgrades from the base truck. But why use a GearOn system versus just tossing everything in the pickup bed? The GearOn setup is safer and more secure for long trips, and also lets you keep using the lower bed area for bags, coolers and other stuff, and have the kayaks and snowboards riding high above.
A big benefit of buying a bike or ski rack right with a new truck is that the accessories can be lumped in with your overall purchase price, and then financed or billed monthly if a lease.
While you do not automatically get a bed full of kit and rails and racks, picking the ones you are likely to use is more more affordable than the alternative.
Overall, it seems like a cool little package, and definitely great to have versus exploring aftermarket options. For the all-new Colorado, finding the right pieces during this first year could be tricky otherwise.
No news on pricing for the GearOn yet, but watch this space for its live reveal next week in Chicago.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado GearOn Special Edition
Chevy Colorado GearOn™ Edition Brings More Adventure
Versatile accessories package maximizes cargo capability; enables more fun
2015-02-10
DETROIT – Chevrolet today introduced the 2015 Colorado GearOn™ Special Edition, which blends the capability of the all-new midsize pickup truck with the versatility of the GearOn accessory system – and additional popular features.
It makes its public debut Feb. 13-22 at the Chicago Auto Show.
The Colorado GearOn Special Edition goes on sale this spring with a starting price of $31,250. It’s offered on LT models in extended or crew cab configurations, with the long or short cargo bed and available 4WD.
“Chevrolet Colorado answers the call for customers who have passions of all types and the GearOn accessory system enables them to bring more adventure wherever they go,” said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. “And with Colorado offering segment-leading efficiency and capabilities, it’s a combination that maximizes adventure without compromise.”
The GearOn accessory system is designed for easy configuration with a multitude of mounting accessories for everything from bikes, kayaks, skis and stand-up paddle boards to a bed-mounted tent. Many of the GearOn accessories allow the bikes, boards and other “tools” of adventure to be mounted on upper rails, leaving room in the bed below for complementing gear.
The Colorado GearOn Special Edition includes the GearOn bars package, divider package and cargo tie-down rings. Additional GearOn accessories can be purchased separately and the customer can have them installed at the time of delivery (installation charges may be extra). The cost of the accessories can be included in monthly vehicle payments, when they’re chosen before taking delivery.
