Snapping a full round of this red Tatra T97 Aero was a rare treat on Pebble Beach Concours Sunday. Very early in the morning, the sun was shining bright for the first time of the week.
Tatra was a special marque invite for the 2014 Concours – in a mission to seek more variety and representation from unconventional marques.
We know very little about the Tatra T97, in truth, but adore it almost instantly. Perhaps it is the long-running Volkswagen Beetle passion, or its flare for the aerodynamic… but the Tatra T97 is very charming.
In many ways, the Tatra T97 is a four-door Czech Beetle with a similar rear-engine layout.
But the four doors and artful tailfin show a really inspired touch.
Today’s global superstar brand Skoda is often considered a bit of a phenom from a country “new” to carmaking.
But this Tatra shows how wrong that statement really is.
Mass-market, mass-produced and massively desirable. Even today, on Pebble Beach’s 18th hole with $400-million worth of other timeless classics.
Post Script: If you look closely, you can seek the Bugatti fashion models in the background of these photos. =]
