Yep, we did our first 10,000 mile road test recently with the 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 AWD!
California to New York, then air-freighted to Paris, down to Pomplona via Ibiza.
Across the Med to Marrakesh, then and on to Casablanca. Working our way up to the Caspian Sea.
It was a big drive. Wow.
Good thing the new Genesis is so accomplished!
Just kidding. Can you imagine? That would be a serious road trip=]
We did not make this epic journey. But the colors available on the 2015 Hyundai Genesis helped to inspire a flight of fancy with their cultured names, from Montecito Blue to Empire State Grey, to MAnhattan Brown and even Parisian Gray – spelled with the Euro-style “gray” versus our “grey.”
They are pretty charming names, especially versus the nonsense stuff that most car brands use to name their colors.
My best example of an eye-roll-inducing car color name: Ford’s light-green hybrid color called “Ice Storm.”
Ooooh, that is something to crave! An Ice Storm?
That would be like calling black colors “Power Outage.”
Not only do most silly car color names not make you want to own them, but they are usually so vague that you do not even really know what color might turn up!
Great to see this worldly logic in the 2015 Genesis, which is a huge hit even after only a few weeks in dealers. It is selling in huge numbers, helping Hyundai command nearly 9-percent of the large premium US car segment in May 2014. Impressive stuff.
The middle of the range is the V6 AWD model, which bases from just below $40,000 – a $2,000-ish premium over the 3.8-liter V6 base model.
These are all below the 5.0-liter V8 engine offering in the new Genesis – which has the LED taillights and special LED foglights up front. Even so, the V6 will be the biggest seller. So the 3.8 AWD forms the basis of this Genesis Colors ‘Grand Tour.’
My pick? This first one in bright white.
I also really like the Parisian Gray, which is the faintest of light grey colors that is very cool and current. It is less metallic than the Santiago Silver shade – which is a good thing – giving it almost a solid/satin hue despite the glossy paint finish.

ALL-NEW 2015 HYUNDAI GENESIS DELIVERS GENEROUS PREMIUM CONTENT FOR AN OUTSTANDING VALUE POSITION
Well-equipped Starting Price under $40,000 includes Impressive Safety and Technology Features
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 1, 2014 – During a gathering of top automotive and business media at the national drive event for the 2015 Genesis, Hyundai announced a compelling pricing package for the all-new premium sedan. Hitting showroom floors later this month, Genesis starts at $38,000 for the well-equipped 3.8L V6 and $51,500 for the 5.0L V8 model. The combination of bold design, superb driving dynamics, unmatched standard technology and attractive pricing positions Genesis as the premium sedan to beat.
“The all-new Genesis rivals the best premium sedans in the world, at a price point many thousands of dollars less,” said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “Our 2015 Genesis represents a bold step forward for Hyundai and reinforces the successful strategy of marketing our premium models under the Hyundai brand umbrella, rather than a costly separate luxury brand sales channel. As a result, we’re able to pass the benefits of this strategy directly to our valued customers.”
