Extra power and extra menace for the final year on the market before new models arrive? Yes please!
The stonking 6.2-liter AMG V8 engine is one of the best powerplants available at any price — even this priced by GE, Westinghouse or the other nuclear turbine providers of the world. This thing is a rip-snorting firework that you set off with your right foot. In the lightweight and compact C-Class sedan and coupe, this translates into some of the most extreme passing speeds of any car, anywhere. That includes Ferrari’s and the like, by the way.
Where the current Edition 507 shows gaps is in sprint pace, where its huge power overwhelms the rear traction pretty whole-heartedly. There is nothing to hold onto back there, and the sprint pace suffers as a result.
An estimate 4.2-seconds is about as quick as the Edition 507 can manage. For the next-gen cars in the US, expect standard 4MATIC traction like the big brother E63 AMG and CLS63 AMG are now packing. This instantly drops the times into the 3’s — and perhaps even lower than the 3.7-seconds achieved by the new E63 AMG.
It is possible, however, for the next C-Class AMG cars is a possible downsized turbo-charged V8 engine under the C55 moniker. Nothing is confirmed yet, but watch this space…
