The 2015 Hyundai Genesis is a tough cookie to figure out. Our initial impressions were less-than-favorable following the machine’s debut last month.

But in the flesh? The new Genesis does pack far better proportions that ever before, with that long hood one of the most appealing in the segment. It honestly reminded me of the second-generation BMW 7-series, which is a longtime favorite car of mine.

The day ran out before would could slide behind the 5.0-liter Genesis’s wheel, but it was extremely well-received in Atlanta — wining the award for its segment with big praise coming from almost everyone who emerged from its cockpit.

We’ll reserve overall judgment on the Genesis until earning some wheel time, but it does still bring great value for its size and market position — a $37,000 base price for this level of rear-seat room certainly shades the Avalon and Buick Lacrosse – both front-drive-based cars that will always struggle to feel as premium as the rear-drive (and AWD) Genesis layout.
