The Jeep Cherokee’s styling hit me like a kick from a horse when first glimpsed earlier this year.
I took to Twitter to say some less-than-encouraging things about its new appearance.
Luckily, using Twitter is like throwing effort into a well – hopefully no one noticed…
I’m actually very relieved to report four things about the 2014 Cherokee:
– Optional 271-horsepower V6 engine with nine-speed auto and available 4WD promises a fun and powerful truck
– Nose looks good on highways and in real life, LEDs visually widen car. The red trailhawk tow hooks are awesome.
– The profile is not half bad either: good proportions, relatively low roof, and good approach angles from that chopped lower nose. The rear end even cleans up nicely, with a tasteful single scallop in the metal shapes that matches the side strake
– Real-world interior comfort, tech and refinement perhaps 10X better than previous Liberty, canceled in 2009.
The Cherokee brings all-new platforms and powertrains that were desperately needed in the Jeep lineup. Its cabin also shows huge improvements in every single area versus the Wrangler, Compass and Patriot.
Most improved elements include seating position and comfort, material quality, and rolling refinement.
Another benefit of that swoopy shape!
The 2014 Cherokee is on sale now nationwide at Jeep dealers, with base pricing from about $23,000 for the front-drive models and $24,500 for the 4×4 option available on both engines.
Even out the door as a front-drive, base-trim model: the Cherokee has LED lighting front and back, a modern appearance, and long standard equipment lists.
The Trailhawk’s base pricing is about $29,000 – just do not forget the hood decal! This piece of matte wrap really transforms the Cherokee’s appearance for the better, and will also cut down on any glare while out in the Moab desert.
